JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE:
Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Machining Center Operator sets up, adjusts, operates and proves out the programming for numerically controlled machining centers for mass production of machined parts in accordance with manufacturing and quality standards and meeting customer specifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Includes the following, other duties may be assigned.
- Set up, adjust, operate and prove out programming for numerically controlled machining equipment to perform machining operations. Vary or adjust speeds, feeds, tooling, and operating sequences.
- Ensure equipment operates correctly and safely. Diagnose and correct operating, material and tooling problems, identify and correct programming errors and edit tapes notifying appropriate personnel as required.
- Arrange, mount and secure tooling; mount align and secure work holding fixtures or locate, support and change work piece as required.
- Set stops and calibrate fixtures or work pieces. Install program tapes and correlate machine positions.
- Cycle machine through operation to check fixtures and work alignment, tooling sequences, clearances, speeds, feeds, etc.
- Adjust machines to correct deviations from program specifications.
- Recommend tooling applications and operational sequences for new or unusual machining operations.
- Recommend improvements to processes and methods.
- Inspect parts for adherence to quality standards.
- Follow all clean up and housekeeping procedures. Comply with all quality and safety regulations.
- Train and guide assisting personnel on set ups and operations. Assist other operators the more difficult set ups and operations.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
Requires one plus year of trades training or equivalent experience and one plus years of related machining experience. Requires the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals, and percent. Requires the ability to read specifications and gauges; ability to complete standard production documentation. Requires ability to operator a forklift truck and the ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
