Position: Mechanical Engineering Technical Lead

We are currently seeking a talented Mechanical Engineering Technical Lead to join our team. Based in Langley, BC, this role provides technical leadership and design authority for switchgear mechanical systems. The successful candidate will lead mechanical design execution, ensuring design excellence, manufacturability, and adherence to standards. Responsibilities include mentoring junior engineers and supporting both custom-engineered solutions and New Product Development (NPD) initiatives. The role collaborates closely with Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing engineering, Quality, Production, and Supply Chain to deliver high-quality, customer-focused solutions. Main responsibilities:
Lead the mechanical design of switchgear products, ensuring alignment with customer specifications and engineering standards.
Review customer drawings, specifications, and datasheets; coordinate technical clarifications with Sales and Applications teams.
Oversee preparation of preliminary mechanical layouts, outline drawings, preliminary bills of material, and technical datasheets for customer approval.
Approve and release detailed fabrication drawings and final bills of material to Purchasing and Manufacturing.
Serve as the primary mechanical engineering point of contact for cross‑functional coordination and resolution of complex technical issues.
Provide technical leadership for the design of sheet‑metal enclosures (indoor/outdoor), structural frames, brackets, breaker mounting systems, bus bar support systems, and bus bracing.
Utilize 3D CAD tools (Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks) to create accurate parametric models and assemblies.
Support the New Product Development (NPD) team with their initiatives, including concept development, design execution, and production release.
Ensure designs comply with internal standards, manufacturing constraints, and cost targets while driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior mechanical engineers and designers.
Define, track, and communicate key performance metrics to engineering manager.
Build organizational capability by fostering a high-performance culture grounded in Regal Rexnord values and employee engagement.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, or a recognized Technology Diploma with equivalent professional experience.
5+ years of mechanical design experience in a manufacturing or ETO environment.
Demonstrated experience producing manufacturing‑ready drawings and bills of material.
High proficiency in Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD Classic.
Strong understanding of sheet‑metal fabrication, mechanical assemblies, bus assemblies. and tolerancing.
Understanding of UL/CSA certification process for switchgear products.
Professional engineering certification (P.Eng.) is considered a strong asset.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Working knowledge of ERP systems (SAP is preferred)
Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without company sponsorship.
